What is Foursquare?
It is a location based social network that uses GPS. It’s an app you download on to your mobile phone (iPhone, Blackberry, Android, Palm and others) and use to tell your friends/fans where you are in town.
How does Foursquare work?
The network is geared on what Foursquare call “checking-in”. You check-in to any type of venue or watering hole, add a short note about what you’re doing/why you’re there – much like a Tweet – and Foursquare will update your network of friends/fans about whats happening. This is the basic sentiment of the social app, there are plenty of other features which you can find on their website.
How can I use Foursquare to promote my band?
‘Checking in’ at the venue when you arrive for load-in would send a message out to all of your friends/fans you are there – an gentle reminder about the show.
‘Checking in’ when you are out and about in town, attending other shows or simply going for a drink gives you a chance to create connections with new fans.
Send out shouts to fans when you’re on tour – asking for recommended places to eat, finding a local mechanic or cheap accommodation – again, much like Twitter.
These are just a few ideas we can think of for using Foursquare to promote your music. What do you think about Foursquare? Any other ideas on how you can see this working for you?
