We were contacted recently by Ariel Hyatt of Ariel Publicity wishing to inform the Music Supported Here community about the 1,000 true fans concept, first discussed by Kevin Kelly on The Technium blog. Basically the idea is that if you find your 1,000 truest fans you can quite possibly sustain a career for your music business/enterprise/venture.
Ariel has written quite extensively about this through the perspective of the independent musician and so we highly recommend you read up on In defence of 1,000 True Fans.
Although we are in support of the 1,000 true fans business model it is, of course, unclear as to what the definition is of a ‘true fan’ actually is – and it is this that you’ll find plenty of debate.
