Today is Weds Jan 18th 2012. Many websites, inspired by Wikipedia, have ‘blackened’ their own websites in rallying support against SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act). If you’re not aware of what SOPA is then you might want to read this very detailed (and long), well written blog post on Mashable.
It is widely accepted that SOPA will censor the web, stifle innovation and hurt web businesses. Google have blacked out their logo (on the US .com version) – Google’s David Drummond explained the company’s views on SOPA/PIPA in an official blog post., and it won’t even help the fight against piracy.
“These bills would grant new powers to law enforcement to filter the Internet and block access to tools to get around those filters (…) These bills would make it easier to sue law-abiding U.S. companies. Law-abiding payment processors and Internet advertising services can be subject to these private rights of action,” writes Drummond.
What do you think?

this has brought some good change though, http://www.HumanFankind.com allows fans to donate to the artists that they stole from. If SOPA passed the internet would be awfffuullll.
